YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE

After a woman gives birth, when she is holding her baby her core body temperature will rise with as much as 2 degrees in order to keep the baby warm. Research has shown that even tiny pre-mature babies can be kept warm with skin to skin contact with their mother. You don’t have to worry about the length of time they are out of their incubators as long as they are with their mother because her body will regulate her temperature to keep the baby warm. This is the only time in a woman’s life when her core body temperature will increase that much and that quickly. It’s one of those amazing human design features by their creator.

Psalm 139 is a song of David adoring his ever present, all knowing and all powerful Creator. In verse 13-16 he declares “you created me in my innermost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depth of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body, all the days for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”.

This is an incredible passage of scripture; it’s one of the strongest statements on God’s prenatal care in the entire Bible. How much does he know about an unborn baby growing in the womb? He knows everything. When a baby is growing in the womb God is at work there skillfully knitting the body parts together. David says “Lord you made me, you knit me together and you shaped me. You know what I am like inside out.”

David says, “you knew who I was, you knew what I was going to be like and you knew the purpose for my life even before you knit me together in my mother's womb. God told Jeremiah “before I formed you in the womb I knew you… I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jer.1:5). You are not an accident even if the devil would have you to think so. The Bible declares that you were in God's mind even before he began to form you in your mother's womb. He had a plan, a purpose and a destiny for your life. Don't let the devil tell you otherwise.

David says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Given a chance maybe there are things that you would change on your body because you don’t like the way you look.  Maybe you do not like your height, skin color, shape of the face, or the shape of the whole body. Maybe you feel ugly or you are consistently being made fun of.  Some people bleach their dark skin to lighten it, others go through surgery to change their gender of some body features like breast sizes.

Do you not know that God created you the way you are for a reason? Do you know that no two people even identical twins have the same fingerprints? God does not make mistakes, he made you the way you are for a particular reason. David did not complain or mourn about the way he looked. He did not compare himself to others; instead he stood in amazement at how great God had created him.  The psalmist says “it’s he who has made us and we are his” (Ps. 100:3)

David says “your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  ” After God created man he looked and he saw he was very good (Gen 1:31). You are his workmanship which he made so wonderfully complex. You are a masterpiece; do not allow the devil to deceive you into thinking otherwise. His work is to steal, kill and destroy. See yourself from God’s perspective like David did, its only then can you enjoy the abundant life that Jesus came to give you (John 10:10).

Very few people ever think of the wonders and mysteries of the human body; yet when studied they reveal the finger of God in the details. The human body is a congeries of wonders from the head to the foot. The different parts are so finely, delicately, and exquisitely made. The configuration, composition and the articulation of the body all prove it to be a fearfully made masterpiece.

The heart contracts four thousand times in an hour and sends out with almost unerring accuracy70 ml of blood at every contraction. The breathing systems, the movement of the limbs, the ejection of waste, the varied secretions  system all adapted either to cleanse, to lubricate, to defend, to digest, or to nourish the body are so many confirmations of the statement that we are “fearfully made.”

Man is “fearfully and wonderfully made mentally. Unlike animals man possesses a powerful intellectual endowment.  This can be seen in the things that man has achieved through technology. Man is “fearfully and wonderfully” made socially.” We are linked one to another, all round the world, from generation to generation. Throughout life we are influenced by others and in turn we influence those around us.

This influence is constantly exerted, wherever we are, whatever we do, in passive and in active life. This realization should prompt us to use the opportunities to influences others to live godly lives through our example. On the other hand it should also warn us to take care, lest we lead anyone astray and cause them suffering here on earth and in the life to come. We need watch and pray, lest we are lead or we lead others astray. We should regard this as a fearful responsibility

Man is “fearfully and wonderfully made morally. We are gifted with a sense of right and wrong. We can understand the difference between good and evil. Every day we make choices to do good or evil; we are at liberty to choose. We may choose to be virtuous (Phil 4:8, Gal.5:22-23) or vicious (Gal.5:19-21). We may choose to range ourselves on the side of heaven or hell; walk with the wise and become wise, or associate with fools and suffer harm(Prov. 13:20).

When David thought about what God had done for him he resolved “I will praise you.” Let us not forget that we have much to praise God for. He brought us into existence and has kept us alive to this day. We should praise Him for wonderful bodies, mental powers and social relations. We should praise Him for fully meeting our spiritual and physical needs. We should praise Him for blessing us with such astounding spiritual possibilities for time and eternity

It is marvelous how God works unnoticed day by day in our bodies. We rise in the morning and sleep at night but God continues to work in us in ways we can’t explain. We do not see what we are becoming; we must trust though invisible to our eyes, we are being fashioned into “a vessel fit for the Master’s use.” We must desire and seek to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man like Jesus did (Luke 2:52).

From now on seek your identity and self worth in God’s word and praise him for it daily. Praise the Lord in his mighty heavens; praise him for his mighty works. Praise him for his unequaled greatness (Ps 150:1, 2). Realize how amazingly special God created you to be; give him reverence and awe for his craftsmanship like David did. Realize that God has fashioned you for a unique purpose.

This will cause you to treat your body well and give you an inner beauty and strength that people can’t help but want to be near you. The most significant thing you can do with your life is to please the one who made you! For you are God’s handwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works which he prepared in advance  for you to do ( Eph. 2:10).
